Likely you are selecting only Part 1 from a Performance that has more than a Single Part and because you are selecting only the first Part you are missing the other Part or Parts which are surely panned differently

- FM Double Filtered — 3 Part Performance (Multi Parts) Part 1 Left; Part 2 Right; Part 3 Center
- Extended Heaven — 2 Part Performance (Multi Part) Part 1 Left; Part 2 Right
- Glistening Grove — 7 Parts (Multi Part) Left-Right-Left-Right-Center-Center-Center, respectively
- Fluctuations — 3 Parts (Multi Part) Left-Center-Right, respectively
- Meteor Shower — 4 Parts (Multi Part) Left-Right-Center- Center, respectively
- FM Film Pad — 2 Part (Multi Part) Left-Right, respectively

When you go to search by pressing [CATEGORY] items listed in BLUE font are Multi Part Performance programs - meaning they occupy more than a single slot. Items listed in GREEN font are Single Part Performances that sound completely from just one slot. Also in the search results the number of occupied Parts in each Performance is shown in the result field by the number of white dots under the selection’s Name.

If you are using the Category Search to replace just a single slot, set your search “Filter” Attribute = Single… this will show you just the programs that contain single Part instruments.

Say you are replacing Part 1 in the “MULTI/GM” Init Performance (16 white dots because all 16 Part slots are occupied). Learning how the Category Searches work is a necessary skill…

How Category Search Works
There are three different Category Search options for selecting sounds for a Performance. Each will appear according to the conditions when you press the [CATEGORY] button or you select the “Category Search” option in the screen. They are not interchangeable — each has a different and specific use, as follows:
1— Performance Category Search — replaces all Parts with an entirely new Performance
2— Performance Merge replaces an empty slot (empty slots require you tap the “+” to *add* a new set of Part(s) to the already existing Parts
3— Part# Category Searchreplaces an existing Part with one Part

The currently selected Search option will be indicated on the top left side of the screen.
When on the Performance HOME screen (in Performance Common) pressing Category will search for a new Performance.
When you tap a “+” to add a Part, you are going to add a complete Performance to current Performance called a “Merge”
When you have *selected* a Part pressing Category will launch the individual “Part” search

If you find “FM Double Filtered” listed, it shows 3 white dots next to the # of Parts, Notice also you probably still have the “SOURCE” field set to just “Part 1” (meaning you are only replacing Part 1 with the first of the three Parts. That’s why: Only the Left panned Part gets selected. In order to also get Part 2, you need to execute a separate operation setting it as the SOURCE

If you find “FM Double Filtered” (blue) it shows 3 white dots next to the # of Parts, but notice you are set to replace the entire Performance… this happens when “Performance Category Search” is setup to happen and there is no “SOURCE” box because all Parts will be replaced by this Performance --OR-- you are in “Performance Merge” where you have an option to set the “SOURCE” Part = “All” or any individual “Part #”, 1-16

Hope that helps.

Extra Credit: In general, to use the synth as a 16-Part multi-timbral tone module for traditional (old school) sequencing, you need to use the MULTI/GM Init Performance and select Single Part (Attribute) programs.
If, however, you are building a multiple Part program to perform with ‘live’ — use the appropriate Search function to build your Performance (for example, “Performance Merge” set to Source = All… this will allow you select several Multi Part items in the same Performance. Each Part has its own MIDI Channel that corresponds to the Part #).
