Yamaha Montage and Montage M Forum • TX816 Electric Piano sound with Montage

Hello!

I asked this also on another forum some time ago but decided now to post a question here also. I have a Montage 8 and I have been trying to (re)construct some 80s-90s style TX816 Electric Piano sounds (other than just the classic DX7 sounds), sometimes layering these with e.g. Keyscape’s MKS-20 E.Piano 1 or E.Piano 2 presets. I have downloaded and am using (what I believe to be) the original TX816 “Electric Piano” multi-part FM performance (see the document “TX816 Performance Notes”, Voice Name Chart (P. 2 ff)) and I have converted that performance into Montage FM-X format with the Yamaha FM Converter. This multipart performance consists of 8 parts (modules, ranging from 6.1 to 6.8), and to my knowledge these 8 parts jointly form the overall Electric Piano sound. I think that some kind soul has also uploaded the TX816 Electric Piano sound to SoundMondo, so I think it can be found there also.

The performance seems to have some awesome tremolo/vibrato built into it (I think it increases when you increase the part 3 & 4 volumes), and I think you can nicely get some more "body" to the overall sound by increasing the volume on parts 1 & 2. Then there is also some panning and tuning to be done with the individual parts (modules). The Voice Name Chart gives instructions concerning the panning. With respect to tuning the Voice Name Chart says: “The master tuning for each module should be set to zero”.

I was thinking of asking whether anyone could give me some hints or guidelines how to adjust or “refine” that basic Electric Piano sound? Or does somebody have their "favorite settings" that they like to use with this performance? I mean for example, what would be the best way to adjust the individual part volumes and especially the tunings using the Montage (e.g. I like to increase the volume on parts 3 and 8, but I don't know what would be the best tuning/detuning) ? Or has somebody tweaked the individual parts’ FM operators and created some new sounds & settings that they would like to share e.g. via SoundMondo?
