They were quick to blame me! Saying their keyboard was not meant to be on all day. And i used the pitch wheel to much! Really?"
Interesting regarding the various problems with your Montage. The original Montage was supposedly made in Japan. Japan manufacturing is top-notch, or at least it used to be. The Montage M is now made in Indonesia. I have not heard of people having any problems with the new Montage M yet. We'll have to wait and see on that one. Sometimes extreme temperature conditions will affect electronic equipment. Also, substandard electrical current can also cause problems. Some people use a 'conditioner' to smooth out any fluctuations in electrical current. Spilling liquid on a keyboard can also be hazardous to the instrument. If you sell your Montage, maybe you'd like to try the new Montage M8x, which has polyphonic aftertouch, adding new expression to your playing. Since the Montage M is made in Indonesia, I would expect the build quality to be excellent, perhaps better than Japan. Also, if you go that route, try to get it from a retailer or wholesaler that gives an extended warranty. At least two years if you can. Btw, it is widely known that Phil Clendeninn aka Bad Mister used to leave his Yamaha Motif XF on all the time. 24/7/365. He never said it ever malfunctioned from leaving it on all the time. Many people leave their computer(s) on all the time. An electronic keyboard is basically a computer with keys. Reliability can be brought into question if the power source for the keyboard is poorly regulated, causing electrical spikes that can be damaging to electronic equipment. I suspect Bad Mister used an electrical 'conditioner' and likely a UPS (universal power supply) just in case the power went out. Here in California, where Yamaha US is located, we sometimes have rolling blackouts because the current Governor and other elected leaders (with a D after their name) are trying to run California's energy needs on wind and solar and not much else. Anyway, I hope whatever you get in replacement of the Montage suits your needs.
