I am not professional in any topic of musicTalk to Casio and several other manufacturers. They have sensors. Does the MODX? I haven't a clue. I never looked inside one.
All Yamahas I had, had those rubber-sensors. Don't get me wrong: I differentiate between "a secondary construction" and a one-component. Don't know to express it in english. "Sensoring" but not "A" (single) sensor. One of those rubber-noses also sends the "key on" signal. So velocity is only "derived" from time between "on1" and "on2". It is clearly the cheapest solution for everything I guess. And at my oldest keyboard, PSR500 I think was the number, the upcoming failure of those rubbers also caused some strange effects on different keys, which had intact rubbers. It finally ended in a dead key, and only then I opened it and saw what was up.
One of my organs - veeery long ago - only worked with pressure-sensors. But that is not velocity as it is defined. At least this is a "sensor" to my understanding. I assume, "aftertouch" is still implemented by such.
At another it was constructed with springs (stripes), which was afaik very common at organs. 3-in-one, because they also brought the keys up again.
What I never saw, is light-sensor. I know there are, but didn't care about those so far.
The MODX surely! has those rubber-strips. Simple 2-contact. (There also exist 3-contact types)
