Mobile phone numbers are recycled by the networks so the number you have may well have been someone elses at some point. In any case once you enter your number into anything these days you can be 90% sure it will be shared/sold on to marketeers or scammer or perhaps both.
I have both a landline & mobile phone. People used to drop their landlines due to incoming calls being mostly spam. My mobile phone seems to receive more spam (text & voice) than my landline.
The good thing about a mobile is it is very easy to block a number. Sure you can block numbers with a landline but it is often a quite cumbersome process usually requiring a phone with enough memory and slots to store those blocked numbers. No such limitations with a mobile. It is also much easier to change your number with a mobile, at least it is here in the UK. GiffGaff for example lets you change your number twice with the same SIM. Or just get a new SIM!
Of course none of us should be needing to fend off spam calls. There is not enough regulation and the penalties for ignoring what regulations there are do nothing to deter spammers from bombarding us with all this crap. It "should" be the case that no one can contact you unless you give them specific permission to do so and your number should never, under any circumstances be shared with a third-party. Unfortunately that is not the world we live in. Money drives everything. Personal privacy is not a real thing these days.
