100% what Lacko said, 90% what Bogdan saidHey Lacko :
I am pleased with my 720 for the time being.
However I am not convinced yet the Genos2 is so much better.
The 720 and the 920 seem to be very popular, more than the
Genos2 ever will be, I guess.
But once again, your assumptions are slightly off: here in Canada, at least, The Genos *massively* outsold the sx700 here (it even outsold the sx900, but that was *very* close; just edging it out) And the G2 has outsold the sx720 by a *lot* again, although the sx920 *may* catch up the G2 (or get close, like the sx900 nearly caught up to the Genos1 sales).
Listen to Lacko and Mary: if you *enjoy* what you have, then enjoy it; there is *no* reason to go around assuming everything else is somehow worse just to make yourself feel better; the sx720 *is* a really good keyboard (it's virtually identical to the sx900, which Belon uses to *great* effect!) and most people will never outgrow it;
But even slight correction to Bogdan; the sx720 cannot do what the G2 (or even the G1) does; but it *is* fair to say that it can do most of what a G1 does (it's actually based on the Tyros 5, but with Revo compatible live kits from G1 added).
You might not be convinced G2 or PA5x is better, and that's up to you; there's nothing wrong with that!
FWIW, the PA5x is *really* good (in fact, better built than G1/G2, with better grands but weaker uprights than G2 (that U3 is incredible), *much* more responsive touch screen) but if I had all the money in the world, I'd still be sticking with a G2; *not* because I don't like the PA5x, but because I've invested so much into registrations/custom styles/karaoke, but because there are quite a few things the G2 can do that even the G1/PA5x can't do (especially registrations). G2 has S.Art2 basses for the first time ever, including acoustic upright *slap* bass for the first time every. If you don't use those? Don't worry about it!
The new orchestral drum kits for one (which I've been begging Yamaha for, for over 2 decades; the Symphony kit from G1 is the *same* one that's been there for 20+ years). Ensemble mode, which is exclusive the T5, G1/G2. and I *really* need for John Williams pieces (if you don't play John Williams songs, you won't really need it). And yes, the Dx7ii being included in G2 was the tipping point for me; I've had a Dx7 since day 1 in 1983, but being able to assign dx7 parts to *accompaniment* is a first, and something I've been wishing for, for over 40 years!!
G2 is almost literally a dream come true for me; and if you've been following my youtube channel, all the new styles I've been making only work on G2. Eventually, I will go about translating them down to G1, T5/sx900, T4/s970. But for now I'm having too much fun re-imagining everything in the G2 soundscape (with the new Revolution reverbs, which when paired with the fantastic new trumpet ensembles, just sound *real*. It's crazy how much difference it makes). And not to mention PSRs/sx series are 128 polyphony, PA5x is 156; G2 is a whopping 128+ 128+ 128 polyphony! (G1 was 128+ 128)
Does that mean you should pine for a G2 as well? No.
Like Lacko and Mary (and Bogdan and pjd) have *all* stated; if you're happy with your board, be happy with it; don't worry about what it can't do; look at what it can (and again, the best example of what an sx720 *can* do, is @Beloncfy, who makes absolutely spectacular orchestral styles & registrations for his sx900, which is basically the same as your sx720).
If there's anyone who *should* be looking at G2? It's Belon; I cannot what to see what his demos sound like once he gets his hands on a G2; given how much better the brass, reverb, ensemble mode and orchestral drums are. But if you haven't begin to push the sx720 to it's limit? the sx720 already does a *lot*.
And I said *almost* a dream come true. My dream would've been mostly this, with automated SSS (instead of me *manually* having to recode everything, be careful of DSP's...) but also my dream keyboard would've ignored the FAT32 install limit of 4GB (and just let YEM generated a split larger file); would've wanted 5 GB of sample ram (still on FAT32, install file would've been over 6GB, just split the install file) and that OLED downgrading to LCD really bummed me out. And of course, why stop at 128+128+128 polyphony? Why not 256 (internal) + 128 +128 poly??
You wanna know something Hillarious? I have a number of G1 pieces that I didn't code for SSS (I was just in a rush to get the video out); the most recent ones I'm converting are Star wars; My Mandalorian on G1 had 4 distinct pops due to no automatic SSS.
When I created the G2 version of the style (slight tweaks, but also taking advantage of the new reverb and dx7 sounds)? Guess what? Once I swapped to the new reverb *all* 4 pops disappeared. Meaning my Mandalorian theme? Once I switched to G2 revolution reverb, automatically became SSS.
I've starting testing the main theme, as well as a couple of Star Trek themes and I'm only 1/3 in converting, and yup, so far all the SSS pops disappeared!
Even I was surprised!!!
