Correct, 3 zone snare snare and cymbals are automatically welded together. And just FYI, we've tried swapping Yamaha, Roland and Pearl e-pads with each other's modules; and they all work *single* zone only; so a 3 zone Roland pad only triggered the 1 zone on a Yamaha or Pearl EPro. Which mean hi hat open/closing wasn't compatible at all.
Incidentally, every Roland kit I've tried *does* allow completely individual assignments for each zone. They're not grouped together like Yamaha, which is both good and bad: it's good because I can assign tom rim's to a cowbell without using another pad; but it's also bad because when you add crash 1 & 2, even if you have a 3 zone cymbal with a bell, the bell isn't automatically assigned. You literally have to go into every kit and save a bell zone sound for the crashes.
I've not tried this, but in theory you *might* be able to Y cable 2 triggers into a single TRS and try triggering that way; but as I said earlier, i've not seen 3 zone pads work from 1 brand on anther brand's module, so it's likely that won't work anyway. But if you happen to have a dual ts into single TRS cable anyway, worth a shot?
